Enterobius Vermicularus is the name given to the small thread looking worm everyone knows as the common human pinworm. It belongs to a family of parasites, and each branch of the family have a preference for a specific animal to infect. The human variety are spread from human to human, by ingesting (eating) the eggs the females lay around the anus at night. They exit the intestine to lay egs, and cause an intense itching. The child, or even adult, scratches in their sleep, and picks up the eggs under the fingernails. If they eat without washing their hands, or otherwise touch their mouth with unwashed hands, they reintroduce the eggs to their system. The eggs hatch, and repeat the cycle until they are all wiped out- usually with a medication. They are commonly spread among children in daycare and elementary school settings, and in a family from child to child to parent. A lot of people will blame dirt or pets, but that's not true. The eggs don't last in dirt, and pinworms that will affect your pet will not affect you. You can't catch pinworms from Fido or Fluffy, and they can't catch them from you either. The only "animal" involved in transmission is another human being. It's one of the reasons you should always wash your hands in the morning when you wake, before you eat, and after you go to the bathroom. You should also not share towels and clothing. You should keep your hands away from your mouth and face, unless you just washed. And of course, you need to watch how people handle your food- if they don't wear gloves in the prep, you probably shouldn't eat it. Treatment is simple enough, they sell over the counter pinworm remedies in pharmacies and many department store drug departments. One of the most common is called Pin-X and it works quite well. There isn't any need to visit the doctor, but you probably ought to treat everyone in the family if one child gets them. One treatment is usually all that's needed, and the problem is solved. At the same time you treat everyone, you should wash all the clothing and sheets, towels, etc- to eliminate any stray eggs hanging around. And of course, stress the need to wash hands, etc. As maladies go, it's pretty low on the scale of seriousness. It's more of a hassle, like head lice, but not a major health threat.

Pin worms are in food and could possibly be on objects. They need a host, but are not picky so it could be any animal. I know this because I was looking for reasons why my daughter was waking at night and for some reason this came up on the internet so I looked into it. Thank god she didn't have them. Usually it happens to babies and children. They ingest pinworms or larvae and the larvae hatches in the intestinal tract and then continues a process of hatching and relaying down to the buttox hole. They usually hatch at night and then, yuck..., crawl back in and lay more eggs. They are almost invisible to the human eye, but can cause discomfort, mainly itchiness. It occurs more so in babies because they are wearing diapers. The diapers hold the eggs and make a good breading ground. It has nothing to do with cleanliness. Once they are ingested it is quite easy for them to produce larvae in the intestinal tract. For some reason, I don't remember why, adults are usually able to rid their bodies of them before larvae can hatch.

Well, you can't get them from pets, if that's what you are asking. This article talks about how you get pinworms:

I think before you get a job why not volunteer your time at an animal shelter and learn hands on experience . People are not to quick to give there loved one to just anyone to watch but if you tell them you volunteer at an animal shelter and show proof then maybe in time you can make money house setting when people go on vacation .
