The Bible says that when people die, they don't go to heaven or hell right away. All dead people are waiting for the resurrection right now. See Eccl. 9:5,6; Acts 2:29, 34 Only after the judgment which follows the resurrection will hell start its existence and even then it will not burn forever. The Bible says that the fire will eventually go out and God will create a new heaven and a new earth. The "the wages of sin is" not eternal life in hellfire, but "death" (Romans 6:23) Also see Matthew 13:40-42; Isaiah 47:14 But only God knows who will be saved and who will be lost, it's not up to us to judge.

Helping ones fellow man is not heroic, it is simply decent. I would expect that anyone would try to help. There is no evidence for a heaven, a hell, or a soul, so I cannot comment further on those parts of the question(s). The real tragedy of 9/11 is two fold:
1) An Abrahamic religion (read "blatantly false") was used as an excuse to hate and kill.
2) The Bush administration squandered the worldwide good will toward the US afterward.

Luckily for us we have a Just God and they went where they belonged.
What do I think? I believe they went to hell if they were not saved. No one gets a free pass on this Earth. Also we are not guaranteed a tomorrow. No one knows how long they have to live.
We also do not know that any would have changed their ways if they had 100 years to do it. Perhaps the true blessing of 9/11 is that some, when confronted with the brutal end, jumped in to the waiting arms of God and he accepted them.

Well the honest truth is that if they were not saved, their souls are lost. They will never enter the kingdom of God because they did not have their pass port - The blood of Jesus to cover their sins-so in all likelyness, they are stll sinners in the eyes of God, no matter how heroic they were. When God looks at a born again Christian, He does not see our sins because He is seeing us through the blood of Jesus. Yes you would undoubtedly be right, the real tragedy would be that so many had lost their souls.
God bless

Wow, I have thought about this before, too. If they were unbelievers, they went to hell. Terribly sad, but true.
However, only God knows what happened while all of this was going on. Perhaps some people who were trapped and realize their impending death prayed and asked God to forgive them of their sins and He mercifully saved them. Think about our military who risk their lives every day. Or our firemen and policemen who died today. They might have saved someone, but if they died as unbelievers, they are not in heaven.

Everyone who dies will be judged according to the deeds they fulfilled during their lifetime, however long or short their life may have been, even those 19 hijackers will be judged.
Absolutely NO ONE is immune to judgment in the eyes of God...
What is important to God is not who you are, how much money you made, or how you eventually died. What is important to Him is what you have done in his service, and what you've accomplished in your life to bring yourself nearer to Him. Did you choose a life of remembrance and obedience so that you can reap the rewards of the Hereafter?
That's really what it's all about, isn't it...?
Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). It is He Who sends down rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things).

Well, the Christian teachings say that all victims of murder are welcomed into Heaven, but other religions get a little more specific with the type of person and the circumstances under which they died - for example, in some faiths, capitol punishment is murder, and serial killers, rapists and such are all admitted to Heaven while in others, criminals, those of mixed race and other groups are specifically denied entry into Heaven. In the case of the September 11th attacks, I would like to think that all 3800 people were admitted into Heaven, but there is no way for us to know!

Nobody knows. It would be unfair to answer this question the way some may answer it because nobody knows, and nobody has any right to pass judgement on others. It was a terrible tragedy, and my prayers were with them and their families that were going through this horrible tragedy.

Since nobody is assured of going to hell or heaven at the time of judgement, let God be the one to judge us.
