A ten wrap is very common, but that alone does not determine between shaders and liners - shaders are set up differently - it's not just the tube and the needle.
When you get an apprenticeship you will get clear instruction from the master artist about the springs, gap, stroke, speed, etc.

yes it can be, but a 10 coil is not as strong as a 18 or 20 wrap. odds are it will work fine for a long time but you never know. shading puts alot of stress on the machine, id say that if you only want one machine go with a 18 or 20, they can be used for both.
