Pro American bluster aside. Iran would pretty much have to react, and they do have a considerably more able army than the Iraqi's had.Their terrain is more difficult and their forces have not been depleted by a previous 'war' like desert storm. The Iranian's may not like the Israelis but they won't bother to try to attack Israel.
It is not impossible to see several scenerios where the damage inflicted by an Iranian counter attack could be high enough to dicourage any US follow up, and since we are talking about a unilateral action by the US the chances of getting UN backing would be fairly low.

Against Iran's objectives -- if the US attacked targets that Iran wanted to attack -- Iran would probably be secretly pleased but play the regional public outrage -- as another way to criticize the US.
If the US attacked Iran -- it would trigger a huge conflict throughout the region as not only Iran by all of their allies attacked US forces. There are only so many times the US can unilaterally attack a middle eastern country before all the rest rise up in protest.
