I'm trying to buy a new dishwasher, but the salesman says I can only buy one that has side mounts because of the corian countertop (they won't drill into the counter). Is this true? If so, what kind of dishwasher allows for side mounting?

The salesman has a point. In the old days of laminate countertops, the laminate was glued to a thick plywood or something called backer board. It was rigid and thick, so it was easy to screw clips into it to install a dishwasher.
Corian is 3/8" thick when used for countertops and the lip edge is laminated on to make it appear thicker and lap over the edge of the cabinet. Alone, sheets of Corian have a bit of give to them. I feel sure they are applied to a thinner backer board at installation, because they will hold a great deal of weight. (That said, don't try standing on them, they could crack.)
Given the popularity of it and stone countertops which sit directly on the cabinets without a substrate, I would think every manufacturer would offer either every model with a side mount or a conversion kit.
Try going to the website of the maker of the dishwashers you like and use the 'contact us' feature to ask that question. There must be a way to overcome this.
