The cow being 'sacred' in India is more about the importance of the cow in practicality rather than just a burger with a side of fries. People in the west don't understand basically cuz they don't live the same way.

Back in the day, there wasn't alot of trees in much of India, so no wood for cooking, heating your dwelling, much less making your home. People would use the dried dung (poop) as fuel for fires.

If ya kill a cow, you might have meat for a month or two if a salted it or something---back in the day no refridgerators. A live cow, gives a milk and fuel for fires every day for years.

It's Hindus that respect the cows, not necessary just ppl in India. The reason for that is because the cow has always graciously given its milk to humans which has sustained us. Any decent person would have respect for the cow because of that but noooooooooo....let's also kill the cow to eat her flesh.
Does that answer your question about why some might respect the cows more than ppl??

In Hinduism, the cow is considered sacred. They are symbolic of abundance, of the sanctity of all life and of the earth that gives much while asking nothing in return. Most Hindus respect the cow as a matriarchal figure for her gentle qualities, providing nurturing milk and its products for a largely vegetarian diet. It holds an honored place in society, but is not considered more important than people.

If a cow went to Burger King and ate a hamburger, it would be considered cannibalism, but it's not cannibalism for humans to eat hamburger. Cannibalism is defined as eating the flesh of an animal by another animal of its own kind.

I'm not sure I understand your question about cannibalism. I hope I answered it.

they don't think that they ARE cows, silly. of course it's not cannibalism.
they don't respect cows more than people, they just treat cows as holy animals. but they are still animals.
in mcdonalds in india they serve buffalo meat, not beef.

I guess it would be just like in some countries they eat dogs, and other countries look upon that as disgusting.

I don't think they look at us as cannibals, but they probably think it's highly disrespectful.

And that's not Indian people that do that, only the HINDU Indians. There are Christian and Muslim Indians as well.
