Today at lunch my boyfriend told me that he thinks he is still in love with his ex. Then he tells me not to read to much into and that he just wanted to get it off his chest.What should i do?

Amazing number of people will say that this is unacceptable.
To me, I can relate to your boyfriend as I am still in love with my ex. She will always have a special place in my heart. I do not believe that once you end a relationship, all the love and feelings are gone. That is just cold. We devoted time, energy and emotions into the relationship. If we can just drop it and leave, arent we turning into hard, unfeeling person?
But that being said, it is the memories of the past. The difficulty in your situation is that you must decipher if your boyfriend is just having that feeling or the need to do something about it. To me, I will never have the need to go back to my ex. Coz I have a wonderful financee now. I have the memories of all the good times with my ex in my mind.
If this becomes increasing bothersome for him, then you need to jolt him back to reality of your situation. If its just a moment thingie, then you should encourage him to move on, support him as he may be thinking seriously about you and him now..which is why those feelings are surfacing.

Give him a couple days to think about it and don't say anything about it. If he doesn't bring it up again after the couple of days, ask him if he's ok and if he wants to talk about it. More than likely he's just not quite over her yet and still has some feelings that sprang up on him and he needed to tell you because he doesn't want you to be in the dark about how he feels. Maybe he sees that your relationship is reaching the same level of his past one and is worried about how it will work out. Either way try to be understanding and if he needs space, let him have it. I know its really hard to be calm about it, but if you stick with him and support him through this, he will realize how amazing you are! Good luck, hope everythings works out for you.

It was very nice of him to get it off HIS chest and put it on yours....
If I were in your position, I'd tell him to make up his mind, and when he does, let me know. I may or may not be available then. And walk away.
This must be a young couple as telling you "not to read too much into it" is impossible when someone says something like this. It shows complete lack of care for his partner.
What YOU should do is entirely up to you.

Get rid of him because If I were you, from then on, that would be all I'd think about. I would always wonder if he was thinking of HER. I think you should probably break up. You need someone who is in love with you, not their ex.

Just leave him and give him time to get over it.
Go out and have some fun being single for a while.
