India is fast developing economy . Already it equals to European Union's combined economy, and ever growing.

India is a nuclear power and is having nuclear weapons with it and is capable of further development in this sector.

Hence the question.

India is a multi cultural country that has a large population and is very poor per capita. Even though I live next to Los Angeles, whose population speaks 120 major languages, most of them can speak English and have a general sense of unity (they think of themselves as Americans for instance). India is still too tribal to become a major power through growth, but still can be a superpower through holding steady as Europe is in freefall (For instance the second largest NATO army is now Turkey and England has been scraping it's mighty navy to one smaller than Norway's). Russia had to recently sell a half built cruiser warship because it couldn't afford to finish the job (it sold it to China) and China is so corrupt that they are going to end up poisoning themselves to death (already the life expectancy of a traffic cop there is 24 years-old as the smog there kills them). I do believe India is heading the right direction and it will have one of the highest GNPs in the world 50 years from now (maybe top 3) yet still one of the poorest per capita.

Isolation is strong with India so military wise it will still probably continue to buy all the high tech stuff from other countries. I think many countries would panic if India's troop strength was even 5% of India's population. Right now I don't think India has the money to even launch a mission into Afganistan with 50,000 men over a 5 year period. Even many European countries couldn't afford it.

India is a rising star on the world stage. They are moving up in the world economy and will be one of the economic powers in the world as we move further into the 21 century. By the way....they are already a nuclear power (thankfully they have shown no aggresion with their nukes.)

Don't know. Why don't you figure it out and then get back to us. Let us know if you think they will overtake the US given time. It would be great to see two or three more strong superpowers in the world to counterbalance the dominance of the US because let's face it, right now the US does as it pleases without any thought for anyone but only because it can.
