I used to be a professional wedding photographer.

Look in the yellow pages

Interview a few, see what they charge, what their packages are, etc.

Do not, under any circumstances, have a good friend or relative do your photo's unless they have wedding photography experience. That is the only memory you will have. It costs a lot of money for a good photographer, but it is well worth it.

What I find amazing, is people spend ungodly amounts of money on the reception, but try to skimp on the photographer. I've run into that more times then I want to think about and each and every one who chose to have a good friend or relative do it for them, regretted it.

Wedding photography is more then taking pretty photo's. It's knowing how to work with people, pose them, use the right lighting and make you happy.

Peace

Jim

In getting a good photographer - check with friends and family who have engaged their services before. I am a photographer myself - check out my site below. If you prefer a local photographer, look at their sites and see if their style of photography suit you, and their pricing suit your budget.

Always ask for a contract so the fees are already determined and the services you will receive is explicitly stated.

Ask them the time that they will be there at your wedding and will they be covering your wedding right from the "getting ready" scenes til the end.

In your visit - look at their end product - what will you be getting. Will it be a leather album, how big is the size, durability of the album.

What is your budget for the photographs? One of the best wedding photographers in North America is David Jay, who is based out of California, but has also done work for destination weddings. He is an award-winning member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association. His website is www.davidjay.com
