It doesn't---common colds happen because you are not taking proper percautions after being out and about all day---wash your hands--it is the most common way germs enter the body--touch a doorknob and then touch your face--you got the bug. Stay at least 3 feet away from other people--germs can effectively reach you from 3 feet away. Fish oil is not giving you a cold--you may have used a dirty glass to help take the pills---dirty glasses carry germs, too

It could be an allergy to the types of fish the oil comes from. Check with an allergist to see if you are allergic to any fish. You can also do a little test yourself, break open a capsule and rub it on the skin on the inside of your forearm. See if you get a red welt or anything. If you do, don't take them anymore.

most likely it's an allergic reaction. I've never seen a single medical study that shows any nutritional supplement causing illness such as a cold.

It sounds to me like it's not a cold at all, but an allergic reaction! Hayfever.
