A Blu-ray player is a Blu-ray player...
With the $400 PS3 coming out there is no cheaper Blu-ray in the world.
You'll also have the option for playing a game or 2 and surf the net with the PS3.

PlayStation 3 for several reasons.
If you like to play games than the PS3 does and you can surf the net through a Sony-developed internet browser. The browser is very fast to. The PS3 also has built in Wi-Fi. Many reviewers say that the PS3 is one of the best Hi-Def players on the market including all HD DVD players and Blu-Ray players. It also supports normal 1080p and the latest 1.3 HDMI. It also has ports for ethernet and optical audio.
This is important because an ethernet is not on many Blu-Ray players, and in the future a ethernet connection will be needed to play the interactive features. But the PS3 will be able to when Profile 2.0 becomes mandatory. Also, the current Blu-Ray players do not support Profile 1.1, which the PS3 may soon be able to support thorugh a firmware upgrade.

The PS3 is the best Blu-ray player available right now. Only for the fact that it is the easiest to get firmware updates for. There are some Blu-ray discs available that have features that you can only play on the PS3. It is very easy to use, and set up. Plus you can get a "normal" remote for it if you don't like using a controller.

for my area the PS3 is the main suitable Blu-ray participant, yet once you do not % to play video games or use the media hub function then you definately will hit upon a Blu-ray participant that should verify your needs nicely. the subject is the only Blu-ray gamers (i.e. Samsung BD-P3600) on par with the PS3 value as lots by way of fact the PS3. So once you're prepared to get a good or respectable participant (i.e. Sony BDP-S350, Samsung BD-P2500) fairly than a great participant you're purely paying approximately $a hundred much less.

The PS3 works great as a Blu-Ray player and it will also upconvert 480p DVDs to 720p or 1080p now. It also functions as a media center and there is more media functionality coming with future firmware updates, according to Sony's press releases.

The reviews in magazines and on-line seem to say that the PS3 is one of the better BD machines and stand-alone players are often compared to the PS3 in terms of quality.
I like the idea of the PS3 because there is a lot of horsepower in that box (which is why it is a superior BluRay player), and you get a DVD & Game system in 1 box.
With respect to Joseph - Sony is one of the arguments against the PS3. Remember they were behind the "root-kit" virus that infect your PC if you put an audio CD into your computer.
