First, you will start to teach her a new command, "Stand".... Actually, I talk to my dogs alot in the ring. I never thought about it but I tell them, "Walk with me." "Head up" "Stand" "Good girl/boy".....

If you are fairly new to comformation and the dog doesn't quite 'get it' there is a wonderful device for helping to train your dog to stack. It is called Stax Rite and there is a web site. I like the design and the cost much better than the Happy Feet training device. Go to: http://www.staxrite.com/

No, I am not connected to the maker of the stax rite, just really like it.

First of all congrats on your CD! Alot of times you can train a dog to do something different than they are used to doing by simply changing collars. Use one collar and lead for obedience training and use a show collar and lead for conformation training. When you change the tools, change the comand. Don't forget to bait the dog and tell him to stand or stack when you stop. Practice with bait standing in front of him and either putting your hand or foot under his tummy and giving the comand. After he learns to do this, you can practice by stacking him correctly. The main thing is to get him to stand on command before you perfect the stack. Hope this helps. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Teach it as you have taught any other new trick. Start from scratch and show her what you want her to do. Maybe train her using a small hand gesture instead of a verbal comand, or start using a verbal comand and the hand motion, and progressively lose the verbal comand so it is less noticeable in the ring, so she knows not to sit, but rather to stand. You will probably still have to put her legs exactly where you want them each time to help her look her best, but this is common practice in the ring. Good luck!

If she has her CD then she must know the "Stand" command.. you use this command as well as a totally different collar & leash to train for conformation.

I show Danes in conformation, obedience & rally. For rally 7 obedience I use a regular chain training (choke) collar and a 6' leather leash. For conformation I use a fine leather collar and a light 2' leather leash. Also the leash is held completely different in OB then it is in conformation. Dogs are smart enough to know the difference.
