Ok my dog at my grandparents house (Yellow Lab), I think has mange. It's winter here and can we give her something to cure it, cause we can't give her a bath. She is too big 4 the house. She isn't abused or anything, she just goes under the back porch, to get warm in winter or cool in summer, and its rubs off. What can we do!! HELP please!

find out what is under that porch . there could be ant killer or weed killer under there . it may not be the mange it may be an allergic reaction to something , but the dog definitely needs to be seen by a vet

If you can't bath the dog because of the cold, there is a few other things you can do, definatly the first thing i would suggest would be to take the dog to the vet and find out if it definatly is mange that is affecting the dog and what kind of treatments they can offer which you can afford,

the second thing i can recommend is a spray for under the porch, i am not sure what brands etc your local vet/pet store would stock but there is a spray you can buy which kills the mange mites, so maybe spraying under the porch could help,

also there are vitamins which you can buy that will help the dogs overall health by helping to heal infected bites etc, I'm sure if you ask your vet he/she could recommend some more types of affordable treatments, hope this helps. good luck.

She needs to go to the vet for a positive diagnosis. If it is mange then they need to determine which type of mange.
How old is she? Demodectic mange is caused by an immune deficiency and usually shows up between 4-6 months of age. Well, technically it is caused by a parasite that lives and feeds in the hair folicle. All animals (including humans) have them as part of our own little ecoystem, which is why this type of mange is not contagious. The problem is that the dogs immune system isn't mature enough to keep the population under control. She will have to be treated for the parasites as well as dietary supplements to boost her immune system. Scarcopic mange is basically canine scabies. Scarcopic is easier to cure because once you take care of the infestation its done. Demodectic can continue to flare up as long as her immune system is down . Most dogs who have this immunity problem will outgrow it by 9-12 months. That doesn't mean that the mange itself is self correcting, just that once her immune system kicks and after proper treatment it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Bottom line is..take her to the vet. Its the only way to know what you are truly dealing with.

Well, you could take it to the shelter, but the possibility of her getting adopted is pretty slim. Dogs that are surrendered to a shelter don't get much time.

She definitely needs to go to the vet - and needs to not be outside without proper shelter. And no, the back porch is not proper shelter. I agree with the 1st poster that this dog needs better care than this.

If it is mange, you have to find out which one - demodectic, which is not contagious, or sarcoptic, which is contagious (AKA scabies) to other pets & humans. The medicine given depends on the mange.

Mange is caused by a type of parasite, and even dogs that are well taken care of can get it. Go to a vet. They can prescribe a cream that should help.

The same song that gets sung all the time....contact your veterinarian. Is the dog on heartworm preventative? If so, ask your veterinarian about using revolution. I've used it for about a year and have had good results, but it's reported to be heartworm preventative, flea and tick repellant, gets rid of internal parasites, ear mites, and mange mites. If the dog isn't on any heartworm preventative, it would have to be tested first.

She's too big for the house? Unless your dog weighs 1,000 pounds, or your doors are only 4" wide, I am pretty sure your dog will fit in the house.
How about you either let your dog inside, provide a place outside where she can get warm and won't get mange, or find her a new home.
My friend, Ivana Hafsechs does Lab rescue and could help you out.

Wow that's a big lab if she is too big for the house.. How much does she weigh? I have a friend who has a lab, she got it from Ann Ellsechs, and WOW that is a big lab too.. Doesn't have mange tho.
Anyhow, you could always take the dog to the vet, they will help you with the mange.
