Time would vary from pound to pound & time is very limited if the pound is full.

It all depends on the shelter, the city and/or county they're in, how much room they have and how much animal traffic they have, as well as $$.
Some shelters don't euthanize animals unless they're extremely sick or aggressive (those are "no-kill" shelters). Some shelters will give dogs a month or longer if they have room, or if they really like the dog and just KNOW it will be adopted. Then, some give the animals 7-10 days to find a home and some will only give 3 days. Again, they're all different by location, etc.
Animals that are owner surrenders sometimes get that amount of time, sometimes they don't. Some get zero days and are euthanized immediately. Some shelters also do this with pit bulls, which I'm torn about. It's for the dog's benefit, so bad people won't get them, but it doesn't give them an opportunity to be rescued.

It depends. Most places euthanize after a week. At the kennel where I work, the only time we euthanize is if the dog cannot be rehabilitated to live with a family, or if it's suffering from a terminal illness. Most of the dogs that come in to the pound get adopted, but if we have some that don't get adopted within a few months, we take them down to another shelter near the Twin Cities. That shelter has a 2.5 day turnover rate, so the dogs we take down are usually adopted within a week.

It will differ from pound to pound. The really overcrowded ones it can be as little as 48 hours. Some are no kill so if they are thought to be adoptable they will keep them indefinitely. Sadly no kill shelters are not the norm although many do exist.
Dogs and cats, puppies and kittens are put down each and every day all over the world. It;s a very sad fact of life. That's why each and every person who breeds a puppy or kitten by law should have to microchip them all and be the main contact for the life of the animal. If it ends up in a shelter they are called. If they chose then they can call the person whom they sold the animal to, but most good breeders would never want to hand back one of their babies that ended up in a pound.
All breeders need to take this resposibility for the lives they create. I am proud to say the breeder of my dogs did.

It depends where you live and how many strays there are in that particular area. There are some "No-Kill" shelters, but then that means that they can't take in a lot of animals, so the ones they don't take, get sent to a "Pound" that does euthanize. Basically, a no-kill shelter just provides extra storage. The amount of time (depending on the shelter and area) is anywhere from 3 days to a few months. It's sad, and also the reason why it is so very important to spay/ neuter your pets!

The minimum amount of time depends on state law where the shelter is located, but for most shelters that euthanize animals, the minimum is 3 to 5 days. After more than a couple weeks, animals should be carefully monitored for signs of stress, illness and behavioral changes, because even the best shelter is no substitute for a home environment.

Depends on several things.....how crowded the shelter is at the time....how "cute" or potentially adoptable the dog is... whether the shelter is a "no kill" or not.... I know in my county the mandatory hold is 72 hours, unless the dog is considered to be "sick", then they'll euthanize immediately. Sadly, an inside source told me that they consider being in heat to be "sick". Anyway, after the 72 hours, it's a crap shoot. Some get a week.....it seems the larger they are, they quicker they're euthanized....tiny and cute get a little extra time.

Depends on the state you live in (USA).
I live in Ohio and the pounds that pick up strays only have to keep the dog for 72 hours. If they are not claimed by their owner they can be adopted , destroyed or claimed by a rescue. But by law they must hold them at the pound for 72 hours so that the owner can claim them.

It depends on the pound. Don't let the name no-kill fool you. Often they will dump the pets they don't want at a kill shelter.
A lot of different shelters will put down certain breeds due to issues, like any type of pit bull looking animal, without going throw the process of seeing if they are adoptable or not.
For most shelters, they put down strays after 3 days though.

Usually 3-5 days, depending on the adoptability of the dog.

At our local shelter, where I worked for many years, we kept strays for ten days. If we felt that they were exceptionally adoptable, we would keep them longer. We had dogs there sometimes for as long as a year. Sometimes it takes awhile for the perfect owner to come along for some dogs. The other shelter in our area keeps strays for three days, sometimes longer if they are nice dogs with no health or aggression problems.
