Congrats :) I'll tell you what I know.
Spacers a little blue rubber bands that the orthodontist wedges in between your molars to make room for a little metal band that wraps around the molars and holds the ends of your wires in place. They're annoying, and make your mouth sore. Mine hurt me for a week (until they took them out), but on average they only hurt for a few days. It's the worst part because it is possible to remove them, and you have to restrain yourself. Try not to pick them out or play with them, because you'll just have to go through the process again. They don't hurt when they are put in or taken out, but they do start to hurt after a few hours so take pain killers. Then, you'll go to your next appointment and they'll take out those little blue demons :)
Thats when they'll be installing your braces. First, they'll clean your teeth with a sandy substance. This will get rid of anything on the surface of the tooth so brackets can be placed properly. Then, the doctor will put a plastic mouthpiece in your mouth to seperate your lips and tongue from your teeth (they're usually clear, but mine was red). After they put it in, swallow. If you feel anything piching you, make sure you tell them (that was my mistake! I spent a good 45 minutes trying to to swallow because it pinched me). Next, your orthodontist will apply a clear chemical to your teeth which helps the brackets adhere. You will also be given little metal bands on your molars, and it'll take a few tries to get the right size. He or she will have a little needle full of orthodontic cement. Don't worry! You're not getting a shot. The cement will be carefully placed on the back of each bracket, which will be set onto your tooth in a very precise position. These brackets will be placed on your teeth and then the doctor will shine a blue light on each tooth for a few seconds. The cement will not dry until the blue light is shone on it. Next, your orthodontist will place a thin wire in your brackets and secure the ends in tubes connected to your metal bands. As you keep visiting, they will replace it with a thicker and thicker wire (every few months). Now, this is the fun part because you get to choose the color rubber bands you want on your brackets.
This link will help you pick colors. Be creative! You can change your colors each month or two, depending on your orthodontist. http://www.jjrocheortho.com/Brace%20Color%20Selector.htm
...And you're done! They won't start to hurt for a few hours. Take pain medication, and make sure you have lots of soft food in the house. Your braces will hurt for the first few days, but you'll get used to them. Make sure you ask your orthodontist for wax, because the brackets might get annoying rubbing against your cheeks and lips. You'll start to see results in a few months.
Keep your eyes on the prize... A beautiful smile!
Good luck! :)

For me the spacers hurt the most. When you get them on your mouth will feel extremely wierd. You won't feel much pain until the next morning.

Everyone is different. Some people say their teeth were a little sore while others report pain. Has to do with pain tolerance. Girls seem to do better than boys. After getting your braces, take ibuprofren.. The amount that you would take for a headache should do it. Also chewing gum might help...

spacers hurt the most for me, too. try some orthodontist's websites, or search braces on google. Your ortho will explain everything to you when you go in.
