Hi There!
We are having a party this Saturday. And we will be having people coming in and out of the house. We also have a 9 1/2 month old that is crawling and picks up everything and puts it into his mouth. We have oak trees everywere and the acorns and leaves come in all the time. And we also have a driveway with little rocks that track in! Is there a nice way without offending anybody to have them take off their shoes when they come in???
Thanks for the help!
Jennifer

I have a no-shoes rule too, so here are my tips:

1) Tell your guests beforehand that they'll have to take off their shoes, so they wear good socks.
2) Leave a pile of shoes near the door. Some guests will notice this and remove shoes without your asking.
3) Spend the day in your stocking feet. Don't wear slippers or house shoes. Most people are willing to walk around in their socks if their hostess is doing the same.

Good luck!

If you are having a party that requires people to go in and out constantly, this will be difficult. You would do well to place rugs in conveniently placed exits and entrances to stamp down the tracking issues. If the party is inside, it's easier to ask people to remove shoes. With a inside/outside party you have little chance of not having some good clean up after the fact. But hopefully where they will be normally tracking your floors are hardwoods, tiles, or some other easily cleaned flooring. If it's carpeting, put something down. You will drive yourself crazy trying to keep outside out and inside clean otherwise. Recognize it's a party and you'll probably have some intensive clean up after the fact. That's the best you can do.

As your guests arrive at the door take their coats and then politely tell them "you can place your shoes over there" and have a rug set up for them to place their shoes on. When the party is over you can just take the rug and shake off anything left by the shoes outside.

A nicely written sign at the front door, a place to put their shoes, and something to put over their feet.

Leave a basket on the doorstep with a sign that says something witty about leaving your shoes in the basket before entering. That should get the point across.

"Baby eats everything he finds, please leave your shoes behind." or something like that.

Leave a clean dry box or something like that right next to the door, and tape or staple a big sign right over it that says:

PLEASE REMOVE YOUR SHOES - THANK YOU!!!!!

Just ask. But be sure to provide non-skid slippers for everyone.

Pull out your gun and order them to take off their shoes before you blow their bloody freaking head off.
