I got my llip pierced 4 days ago (straight titanium stud, longer bar for swelling), by a well recommended and skilled pro. Most of the swelling has gone down and it looks great, but on the inside it is still swollen, taking up the whole bar. One the back (inside my mouth) where the stud sits, it feels like it is sinking into my mouth and there is this little red circle that the back of the stud is sitting in. It looks like the regular pinky flesh is starting to cover it, or something.

Does anyone (preferably someone with experience with this problem) know what this is or if it's a problem, and if so, what I should do?

Thanks much,
Alice

I am not asking for an opinion on lip piercing here. Obviously my perception is different than yours. Anyways, I have come to believe that when you get a lip piercing, you start with a longer bar so the lip has more room to swell, then downsize when the swelling goes down. I have the longer

also, I rinse with antimicrobial mouthwash after every meal/food, accompanied with two cleanings a day. i keep it as clean as possible.

Good job going to a pro and knowing why you have the jewlery that you have! You are also cleaning it correctly from what you have described.

The inside of your mouth around the piercing is annoyed because the little flat back is constantly in contact with it. There isnt anything you can do about this and your mouth will get over it in time. As long as your stud is not too tight (which it shouldnt be with the piercing stud you have) then the aggravation will go down over the next week or two.

Your stud will slowly make itself a little cup to sit in within the inside of your lip. This is a good thing as it keeps the jewlery tucked away from your teeth and gums! Unfortunately the process is moderately uncomfortable in the meantime. The skin attemtpting to grow over will eventually give up on the idea and come to rest either against the edges of the back or slightly over.

These little bits of skin that are trying to cover the stud may even turn white and eventually fall off (dont pick at them, they will go on their own). As long as the piercing is still healthy this is fine. It is just your body deciding it doesnt need those pieces and removing them so they cant cause trouble.

Keep in mind that this process may start over if you change your stud to something with a larger or smaller back in the future. So, dont panic if your inner lip grumbles about the shape of new jewlery (you'll be able to tell its just the inside of your lip in a healed piercing)

i have my labret pierced and the stud thing kinda leaves an indention in your lip, if it doesnt hurt i wouldnt worry about it. when it's new and swollen it's gonna look like that on the inside. now if you look at it and cant see the back of the jewelry then you may have a problem and need a long stud

Alice,
titanium is a great material. The problems are 2.
#1 the mouth is full of bacteria and
#2 the bar is too long.
Inside the lip the bar should be short.

You might not want to hear this : "But " your body is reject this piercing. If I were you I would simply remove it. Now what your going to have to put up with is that nasty infection.
