Shut up you person above me complaining about the smoke. At least you still have your freakin house. I live in SD too and had my house burned down 4 years ago. Don't even think of complaining about your "eyes" and "breathing"!

Anyway, global warming could have some affect upon these unusually large and dangerous wildfires. The main reason these fires are so large however is due to the strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity levels in San Diego. Global warming does not have an affect on either of these factors. Although the warm weather is not of any help to fire fighters.

In response to people screaming about arson: Arson could be to blame for some of the fires, but that doesn't mean the people purposefully started them. Arson only means that a fire was started by unnatural means.

Peace

People really need to start reading up on current events and the daily newspapers -- only two of these fires (out of 16 at one point) have been tied to arson!

These areas had major burns in 2003 (the Cedar Fire) and in 1999. This burned up a significant amount of ground fuel and overgrowth throughout the region. This firestorm has been created by the convergence of three extreme conditions: several severe dry seasons; exceptionally high Santa Ana winds over the last few days; very, very low humidity. The region had basically become a tinderbox.

This maybe an indicator of climate change considerations, but will be hard to tell from just this year alone. If this is the defining edge of what is soon to become a pattern for Southern California, then yes, this is the onset of one of the key aspects predicated from climate change for this region.

With Global Warming, the air does get drier and makes things more likely to burn. But even before people released toxic fumes into the atmospere, there were fires. It's called the circle of life. And by the way, these fires were mostly caused by down-power lines, arsentists, or pure accidents. Global warming could have possibly contributed to this natural disaster, but certainly didnt cause it.
