why not invasion? They are illegally crossing the border.

Immigration describes the more-or-less permanent movement of population into an area. Most illegal border crossing probably do fit that definition, making them 'illegal immigration.' Some would be better termed 'migration' as there is no intent to remain for long. 'Infiltration' implies an organized effort to bypass borders for purposes of military action or espionage. As much damage as illegal aliens may be doing to this country, the media can be excused for avoiding so alarmist an implication.

Immigration is moving to a new land to start a new life. As long as you don't sneak in, you have the right to go to that new land.

It would only be accurate to call it "infiltration" if they were secret agents in a plot to destroy the country.

If you really believe that, it must be lonely on that planet you live on.
