my mom doesnt get it that shitzus dont like little dogs and its so annoying when company comes and we have to deal with the dog because hes acting up around little kids
how can we get him to stop or what can we do?

I know that small children and little dogs can be together because when I was a child we had a couple small dogs. My sister-in-law also breeds Chihuahuas and Daschunds and her children have been around them since they were little. Most people just don't teach the dog and the kids how to interact and respect each other. They leave the kids in the room alone with the dog and that is a recipe for disaster. The kids and the dog must be supervised until the child is older aand knows how to handle the dog with respect. The dog also needs to be trained, exercised and socialized properly.

He's a dog, you're his owner - you need to be the boss. What does he do around the kids? Whatever it is, you need to stop it. Put him on a leash and make him follow you around. Every time he growls, snaps at or fixates on a kid in a negative way, tap him on the back of the neck (the scruff of his neck, not his head) and say "hey" harshly. Keep doing it every single time, and he will eventually give in and stop. It would also help to take him for a good, long walk before kids come over. He is more likely to be difficult if he has pent up energy.
Don't remove him from the situation, avoiding it won't make it go away.

Dont lock him up, this makes a dog even more antisocial. He needs socialization, and it can be done at practically any age. When company comes and there are children, put him on a leash, keep him close to you and just give him a sharp reprimand whenever he acts up. Give a sharp tug on his leash with every reprimand. Do not allow the children to approach him, but also do not make the children sit like statues, this isnt what aggravates your dog. When your dog calms down, give him a treat and lots of praise. You must be consistent and firm, and it will take some time to undo bad behavior, but it can be done. Good luck.

Ive never heard of a shitzu not liking kids. I was under the impression they were REALLY good with kids. A friend of mine has one and she is wonderful with my 3 kids (ages 3, 3, 9mths) and my dog (english bulldog, 6mths)

Take it for a long walk...lots of places to loose a shitzus & pretend it was an accident...

lock the dog up when people come. Next time you go to their house, take you dog and let them see how awful it is to have to lock your dog away because someone brought a dog or kid to your house.

It depends on his age. If hes older than your stuck with it. If hes 3 years or younger,maybe you can do something about it. When ever he does this,tell him, furiously, NO!!! Then kind of hit him on the butt or head..lightly..NO ABUSE THOUGH!!! Hope this will help! If it doesn't, try enclosing him somewhere where he can't get into mischeif.Good Luck!!!

Well if he doesnt stop then put him in a cage. To make him stop take him to petsmart or some where to train him. or put in a room where the kisd arent in. or put him in the backyard if he wont run off.

thats what I had to do with my dog too. I had to put him either outside or in another room when some people came over.
