...whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit." Once we tune ourselves to this reality, Lewis believes, we open ourselves to imaginatively transform our lives in such a way that evil diminishes and good prevails. His contemporary, Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world it leaves to its children."

I like Bonhoeffer's quote about the test of a moral society. Unfortunately, society is failing it right now.

we are immortal in the sense that as long as the human race prevail, we as individuals live on through the lives of others. So, yeah, in that sense I agree with Lewis

Basically, if we take on this belief, we are forced to constantly be aware of the moral implications of our actions because they reflect on ours and others eternity. If we stop thinking merely within the limits of our wants and the present, then we can begin thinking within the realms of goodness, love, kindness, peace, perseverance... etc, and hold ourselves accountable to our beliefs.

Lewis believes that anyone who chooses to think beyond him/herself will not also choose to do evil because it is in the nature of an evil person to only think within the limits of selfishness, and it is in the nature of a good person to only think within the realm of love.
