You only need 40 to 45 percent of the vote in Canada to form a majority Mega. That in part is thanks to fringe groups like the green party that helps split the vote. Oh and Harper's popularity has been steadlly rising.

Dana it reads
And it declares that the government will not meet its obligations under the Kyoto protocol on climate change, an international agreement the Liberals fervently support

Always thankfull for the science lessons,Trev. But the sand in my face has not stop me from seeing the polotics of this issue.
The liberal oppisition who signed the kyoto aggreament know when they signed it that it could not and would not be reached.
Even still they voted with a political party who said that much openingly.
I guess the members of the two biggest politacal parties in Canada are part of the 8% of gw deniars eh?

Canada didn't want to see any of its valuable manufacturing jobs go to India or China, who are, by the way, exempt for the Kyoto controls that limit pollution!
These two countries screamed bloody hell about the US after we rejected Kyoto...because they would have gotten most of the abandoned jobs.
Way to go Canada!
Samantha is your garden veriety lib nut job. No one can express a view other than hers without the name calling and cursing! How christian of her!

It's not that Harper rejects the theory of global warming.
In fact,he's done more on behalf of the environment in two years than the Liberals did in more than a decade. The Liberals may have supported Kyoto, but outside of lip service
they only act in election years.
Harper's reason for not meeting Kyoto was that the goals called for were not realistic considering that nothing had been
done by previous governments. He still acknowledges global
warming exists,as do most people,and it's a major concern
for Canadians. Whether or not it'll be enough is open to question, but if you think the Canadian government doesn't
believe in global warming,think again.

Just out of interest, why did you invent the notion that the Canadian government has voted not to meet Kyoto? Then to kick sand in your own face you even added a link that confirms this isn't the case (they may not meet their targets which is totally different to having voted not to).
And even if the government had voted not to meet Kyoto (which they can't do anyway) all it would tell me is that a few hundred politicians don't agree with the billions of people worldwide who view global warming as a 'serious threat' - 92% of the population at the last count.
What it does do is to confirm that yet again skeptics are incapable of refuting the science behing global warming, yet again they write their own history and yet again they attempt to decieve people.

I think you're purposefully distorting reality to make it fit into your worldview. Fortunately, your description of events is not at all what happened.
"Canada will not formally withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol despite the federal government's declaration this week that its emission targets are dead, Environment Minister John Baird said Friday.
"We've been very clear," Baird told an infrastructure news conference just outside of Ottawa. "We have no intention of withdrawing from the UN framework, the Kyoto Protocol."
In Tuesday's throne speech, delivered by the Governor General, the Conservatives declared Canada could not meet its Kyoto pledge — to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by six per cent below 1990 levels sometime between 2008 and 2012.
{....}
The government has said it will aim to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions 60 to 70 per cent by 2050, with a 20 per cent reduction by 2020."

Sounds like Canada is right along with world popular opinion that we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid catastrophic climate change.
Now that I've provided a reality check, bring on the thumbs-down! You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!
*edit* What was I supposed to get from that story? That Canada has a conservative government right now? I already knew that. The story just corrobarated everything I said.
Try taking off your denial-colored glasses and read it again.

My opinion, Dubya's opinion or Stephen Harper's opinion all have nothing to do with global warming. Opinions are not going to replace the ozone, stop the ice caps from melting or clean up the oceans. Its time for action (or actually we need LESS actions that pollute).
But I can tell you my opinion about Stephen Harper - he has a minority government (which means that he has far less than even 50% of Canadian support) and he does not represent my views on global warming or even the majority of Canadian views.
I'm embarrassed to have him as the leader of our country but I have to live with it because thats the political process. However I don't have to live with his denial of wanting to do anything about our polluted world. I'm not waiting for our 'leaders' to lead (because they don't lead), I'm making changes in my own life with or without their help.
