Okay you need to clarify your question. Why do SOME military wives have southern accents....or why do ALL military wives have southern accents? In any case....it would be a generalization and stereotype that *all* military wives have accents. And sure, *some* have accents. Maybe even *many* have southern accents. But many have NO accents. Many have German accents. A few have australian accents. A few Russian. Servicemembers are from all over the world, and so are their wives! It is the beautiful thing about the military! But if you have heard some of those southern accents, then it is probably because there are so many installations in the south so naturally the soldiers would meet their wife where they are stationed.

LOL-- haven't met many military wives, have you?

Military wives are from all over the country. Those who were raised in the south will have a southern accent.

I was born and raised on Long Island, NY. My accent is the furthest from southern you can get.

Sorry, but like most of the others have said... we don't all have southern accents. Me, I tend to change accents based on where we are living. Just came from ND, so I have a very strong ND accent, lots of long o's. Before that, I had pretty much lost any sign of an accent... lived in Germany for 5 years, and even lost my midwest nasal twang. Currently picking up a bit of a British accent, which is really interesting thrown in with the ND!

My daughter in law is a military wife. She has a Polish accent. There are military wives from all over the place. I can say with a high degree of confidence that they don't all have southern accents.

Maybe because all of the military wives that YOU know are from the south but the accent does not apply to all military wives.

Most of the US military bases are in the South. Most men enter the Army at 18 to 20 and are single. They are stationed in the south, and meet their future wives while they are their.
