DOUGHNUTS

1 qt. milk, minus 1/4 c.
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. shortening
1/4 c. warm water
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Heat milk to lukewarm, add sugar, salt and shortening and baking soda to milk, then add yeast that has been dissolved. Mix thoroughly with enough flour to make a soft dough, work to elastic.
Put in jar or pan to rise. When double in bulk, roll and cut with dough cutter, let rise. Fry in hot fat; the fat should be hot enough to brown a cube of bread in one minute or 370 degrees F.

ICING FOR DOUGHNUTS:

1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. warm milk
Pinch of salt

Dissolve sugar in milk, add vanilla and salt. Dip doughnuts in icing; put on wax paper to dry.

This is sorta a recipe though there is no mixing and all that involved. You take canned biscuits and cut a hole in the middle. Deep fry them in oil on both sides till golden brown. Let them cool on some paper towels or a paper bag to drain the grease. Then mix together powdered sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla and add milk to that until you get a nice and runny glaze. Pour the glaze over the donuts and enjoy them while they are warm! So delicious you will never know they aren't homemade and neither will anyone else!!

GLAZED DONUTS
1 c. shortening 1 c. sugar1 1/2 tsp. salt1 qt. scalded cooled skim milk1 c. mashed potatoes6 eggs11 c. flourPut together and work as bread dough. Let rise 2 times, then roll out and cut and put on wax paper. Let rise again. Fry in deep fat and glaze. Makes about 120 donuts.GLAZE:Powdered sugarWaterMix together some at a time as you glaze the donuts until you have enough.

DONUTS
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour1/3 teaspoon salt1 whole egg1/3 cup sugar (11 teaspoons)2 1/2 teaspoons melted butter1/3 cup lukewarm water2 1/2 teaspoons (1/2 pkg yeast)1/3 cup milk1 teaspoon vegetable oil1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder (opitonal)Add yeast to lukewarm water and let it sit for 5 minutes. Boil milk and let it cool, until lukewarm in temperature. Mix the lukewarm milk and salt with the yeast mixture. In a blender, combine the melted butter, cinnamon, sugar, oil, and egg together, then blend for a few minutes until smooth. Add yeast and milk mixture, blend for few seconds. Add flour a little at a time, so the dough will be nice and smooth. Once all the flour is added, blend until it forms a nice smooth dough, if a little too sticky add some more flour (but not too much). Once the dough is ready, set it aside for a while until it rises. Roll out the dough to about 2 cm thickness or 1/2 an inch, and cut with a donut cutter. Once cut, set it aside, let it rise again, until it looks plump (about doubled in bulk). Then deep fry in hot oil (about 365°F). Once the donut is in the hot oil, let it fry for a few seconds and then turn it over to prevent it from cracking on the other side. Fry until golden brown; remove using a slotted spoon and drain on absorbent paper or paper towels. Once cooled, you can add your favorite topping, sugar glaze, cinnamon sugar, or simply powdered sugar. This recipe is very easy. Tastes good too - you'll simply love it!

Method
1. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Stir in the sugar and make a well in the centre.
2. Stir in the butter, milk, eggs and 100ml/3½fl oz water to make a smooth, thick batter.
3. Heat the oil in the pan and drop in small spoonfuls of the mixture; cook for 5 minutes until brown and cooked through. Drain on kitchen paper, then dust liberally with sugar and serve.
