THE SPIRIT FROM GOD RESURRECTED JESUS Luke 23:46 [ Jesus Spirit ];

A power so strong, the earth shook, the veil was rent, the graves were open and saints came forth to life, and unbelievers before, became believers.

Matt.27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

The Veil is the last entrance that the priest had to go through to enter before he was in the Presence of God. The last enemy of God’s people was death. Christ has burst through the portals of death removing its sting. How good to know when we depart this scene we shall enter through the Veil and be before God in love. "AND SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD." AMEN!

This sacred room, the Holy of Holies, was separated from the rest of the temple by an elaborate and beautifully embroidered curtain. According to Jewish descriptions of the temple, this curtain was truly massive—measuring some 30 feet wide, 60 feet high and three inches thick. Its tearing in two from top to bottom at Jesus' death was a shocking and bewildering event!

A descriptor of the veil

The blue, is the color of the Heavenlies. The purple, is the royal color, the robe of the King! The scarlet, the pouring out of His life in sacrifice! The fine twined linen, the perfection of His character. The CHERUBIM, the power of God.

Behind the veil was the most holy place of the temple, their was an alter to make a sacrifice offering there and burn incence. Only the priest were allowed in there. People would bring their offering to the priest and he would take it behind the veil and give their offering for them. He would say their prayers for them. He was a mediator between the people and God. When Christ died the veil was rent giving all access to the most holy place. This done away with using the preist as a mediator, giving everyone direct access to God. You pray your own prayer to God.

The veil is what separated the higher Rabbis from the other common people, and lower rabbies in the temple. Regular people were not allowed past the veil. The veil tearing in two was symbolic for the destruction of the temple, and the building of the new church. In Greek Orthodox, the tearing of the veil is symbolic of the separating of the "Christians" from the Orthodox Church.

The curtain into the Most Holy was rent in two from top to bottom, enabling the priests in the temple to see into the Most Holy, which only the High Priest could enter. This signified Jesus opening the way for others to enter heaven. The curtain was approximately 3 feet thick and I don't remember how tall. The dimensions of the temple and tabernacle can be found in the book of Leviticus.

Hebrews 9:8
the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.

Now in Christ it is open

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

The significance of the veil being torn was that it showed when Jesus died for us, there was no longer a separation between God and his people. The fact that it was so thick was important, because no man could just rip it when he felt like it. Also, it is important that it was ripped from top to bottom, because how would one get to the top of the curtain to rip it? This shows that it was torn by God, to symbol Jesus's death was what broke the separation between Him and us.

Excellent question!

I am not sure on dimensions and all that but as far as its significance.
The veil represent the barrier between God and Man.
The veil being torn represents that barrier being destroyed.
Now through Christ has full flied his work on Earth.
We can now go to God through His son Christ.
No more veil between God and Mankind..

Before that we had no Grace which is what man now has through Christ...

Bless!

The veil hid the Holy of Holies which is where the high priest was and if a person wanted to be forgiven of his or her sins, they could not enter the Holy of Holies but had to give their sacrifice to the high Priest! When Jesus died on the cross, he took the punishment for our sin on Himself so that we no longer had to go to a priest and sacrifice but we could be saved through Jesus and not face hell. I am not sure the dimensions of the veil.
