I live in Massachusetts, USA. I'm gonna be working at the US Postal Service. I'm gonna be getting a starting salary of 13.75/per hour. How much would I be making after tax if I'm making $550 a week not including tax? How much will they take out? I think I would be making somewhere between 18-20gs not counting tax. So I just want to know if I'm making $550 a week without tax deductible, How much will I really be making a week if they take out tax from it? Thanks to all in advance.

Too many variables to say. Your tax liability depends upon your marital status, number of dependents, deductions, etc. Go here for some handy estimators: http://www.paycheckcity.com

it works the same way with everyones paycheck, the goverment gets a certain amount, your medical insurance and stuff gets a certain amount. If you have a low paying job, they take away less money. If you have a high paying job, they take away more money. But rich people always will make more than poor people. The goverment needs money to run and all there doing iswasting money on useless stuff...
