I just ordered a Rebel online but heard that the batteries only last 1/2 hour. Is this true? I dont understand why such an expensive camera would come with a battery that only lasts that long.

I have two Canon dSlr cameras - a 300D digital rebel and a 30D; they use the same batteries.

I have shot college football games, weddings, concerts, portraits, and nature with these for the last several years. I have never run a battery to empty.

I suppose if you use the flash on full power and put it in rapid fire mode and have about 12 gigs of CF cards and shoot for about 6 hours straight -- you might run down a battery.

This is about the BP-511 Canon OEM battery pack. I suspect there are garbage aftermarket batteries out there that don't last. But, why would anyone put aftermarket garbage on such an outstanding piece of equipment?
