This is just how beach weddings are!

You could use an ipod with speakers that is on a battery for music. or live music. or just a singer with no instruments.

For food, you need to get sterno cans & chafing dishes to keep food warm.

Lighting is another issue, it's tougher to deal with. What about tiki torches?

When it comes to beach weddings you only have so many choices. You will have to have power if you decide to serve food warm, have lighting, or need a/v equipment.

You can always use an accoustical guitar player for music, a carribean steel drum band, or string quartet for music. You will have the sound of the surf in the background too.

You can set up the ceremony and reception areas separate so that you can have a generator for the reception area. Then you can provide candle light for the ceremony location and have your ceremony timed so that it will occur shortly before, during, and ending after the sun has set.

The good thing about having a beach wedding is that it can be much more informal and the scenery is already beautiful.

That's the way it is with beaches!

You need to check with the beach authority in your area to find out what you are allowed to use. If you must have a generator, does someone have an RV that they could run? The car adapters are designed to charge you cell phone while you drive or run your satellite radio. You'd have a dead battery if you tried to keep food warm.

If allowed, you will need chafing dishes with sterno. As far as music, you can use a boom box and CDs or an IPOD w/speakers.

Congrats & good luck

Why not have the ceremony on the beach and the reception nearby in a place that has power?

For the ceremony music, hire a violist or classical duo, trio or quartet, no power needed for stringed instruments.

You definitely need to check with the town as far as permits for having the reception on the beach and whether you can have power or generators. If you are set on the beach reception, definitely go with a generator I really don't think it would be that loud, wouldn't the music drown it out?

Good luck I hope it works out!

You won't be able to get as much power from your car as you think. You will also end up with a dead battery.

You need a generator. Weddings before that have used them usually we either put it further down the beach or get supplies from Home Depot and build a sound-proof box to put over it.

Otherwise you are going to have to go without the power and scale back to accomodate that. It's the trade off you pay to have a reception on the beach.

I think the whole appeal of a beach wedding is that its a natural location. If you want all that, have something indoors. If you're on the beach at night, bonfires and torches are lovely, and you could have live music (a guitar and singer for example) and use the sternos to keep your foods warm (this is how it's done anyway, whether inside or out).

Check with the beach authorities. You might find you are not allowed power on the beach. Most of the beaches I have done weddings on do not allowed power or amplified music.
