My Father boxed in the Army and he used to take my brothers into the back yard with the boxing gloves.
He recommended me to buy my boys boxing gloves and put them into the back yard when they were fighting each other but I wouldn't do it - they did used to *wrestle* in the living room though under my supervsion.
Later tonight they are reshowing the "Thriller in Manilla" fight on TV - that and subsequent events makes me think that I was *right*.

It's brain damage that I am worried about more than anything else - I certainly let my boys be boys in other ways and they are all great strapping young men now. They played football, rugby and all sorts and,as I say,I let them wrestle quite aggressively when they had "issues" but no hitting to the head - just as I would never have hit them about the head myself.

It does seem like it has got more violent these days, in and out of the ring.
It used to stop boys from fighting in the street and now they are even more vicious in the ring. Remember that ear biting incident.

No, I don't think so. Teens under the age of eighteen can get severe injures playing any sport and it is something that I have seen too many times.
Some of the effects a person can get from boxing can also be received from other sports like football or hockey.

How old are your boys? If they are very young, 12 yrs or younger,I wouldn't worry about serious injury. Just make sure
you give them 16 oz gloves and headgear. When taught properly, boxing is a safe way to build confidence and discipline in young people.. So let them slug it out in the backyard, and if they still like it when they reach their teens, get them into a proper boxing gym where they can refine their skills.

If you earn over 5,000 a year then you do have to pay taxes. It happened to me when i was a teenager under the age of 18. It isn't that bad really you just have to know how to fill out the paperwork and you will be getting a check in the mail.

More children are injured playing football and soccer than boxing.
The boys need physical activity to be healthy. You can not protect them from being boys.
They need to learn about life, and with supervision they can do so in a controlled arena so they reduce the chances of being injured.
I take it you are the mother of the boys, since your father did not take you into the back yard to fight.
Realize that you are going to cut the apron strings sooner or later, and they are going to have to stand on their own two feet.
