Not the beliefs but the church itself. Those in power i.e. The Vatican.

I would say what I feel but I have been reported so many times for anti-catholicism remarks perhaps it would be better if I sit back and listen.

Considering all of the historical events concerning the RCC, and the power and money the church has - I think we can definetely separate the Church from the beliefs.

In my opinion, the catholic church (the institution, not the individual members of today) is one of the most oppressive, bigoted, and harmful religions in existence...

Their stance on birth control is unforgivable.
The pedophiles in their ranks being covered for...
The guilt trips they place on people for being human
The power given to men as priests, misogyny towards women
The wealth of the elite
The poverty they do not alleviate
Purchasing "indulgences" to get to heaven

Whew, I could go on... but I'll let this be enough.

I don't think theology is necessarily as important as "do unto others as you would have done to you". From that one could glean that there are some serious problems with the Catholic doctrine and how "The Church" behaves. There are many passages in the Bible that say you'd be better off selling all your worldly possessions and giving them to the poor, but this (just one example) is apparently not something "The Church" agrees with very well. While many Catholic churches may indeed help the poor on a local scale, overall its' wealth is not very well distributed. Sadly, there are many other examples of how the Catholic Church strays far from scripture. But since one of the most important messages in the Bible says not to judge, I guess it might be best to leave all that be. Let God decide in the end!

Hey, the Catholic church is big business! Religion is big business and they know it. L. Ron Hubbard knew it and created his own religion.

I don't agree with the big business the church is. They take x% of the paritioners income. Hahahaha!! Nice for them. Tacky but nice. Why do people buy in to that? I agree with contributing but come on. Then it's flaunted with huge buildings and constant upgrades and additions to their buildings all over the world.

I could go on for ever and not even talk about the bad policies.

Overall, it's not a bad religion. I just don't agree with some of the policies.

Those in power are sinners just like we are. They must confess and repent just as we do

For the one who said the Vatican should sell everything it owns. The Vatican does not own the priceless pieces of art, or anything else. And even if it did and donated it all to charity how long do you actually think all that would last, a week, maybe 2. Everything in the Vatican belongs to the world to look at and admire. Catholic Charities is the largest charitable organization in the world that houses, clothes, feeds, provides health care and medication to millions of people each and every day.

Mt16:18
...That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church....

Where as it may be the church spoke of (Peter founded the Catholic church) It has still become corrupt, and wickedness abounds. Not all it's followers, actually for the most part because of it's leaders....

All Christians are members of the Holy Catholic Church. Look it up on Wikipedia!
As for the sinful practices of the Roman Catholic church, they are men whose feet are made of clay. They are not beyond redemption for the grievious abuses they commit against children. Nor are the children (many now adults) beyond the healing power of Christ to ease their suffering.
We are all in need of the constant intercession of Christ! Thanks be unto God that his blessing are renewed each morning and that all believers can boldly go before the throne of grace where we may obtain mercy.
Pray for the priests and their victims. Remember that only God will separate the sheep from the goats in the end.

I think the Catholic church has done many bad things but also many good things. The Catholic church is run by humans. Humans are going to sin and make mistakes. They are going to do things to displease God. The Catholic church is not alone in this. I really have no problem with the Catholic church overall. I disagree with many of their traditions but I believe they are Christians.

i am a catholic myself and i go to church every sunday. But i never give in tightings, i rather give it to people who are really in need than the church, knowing how wealthy vatican is. i wonder what are they gonna do with all the wealth? They can't bring them when they die.i hope they are really Christ's followers those who are in vatican. Can you imagine that our pope was mother theresa? or the pope has that mother theresa character? i hope it will come so that i will be proud to say that our pope is really deserving to be a pope.

if the world needed an example of the worse of all human characteristics it could be found in the church from their rise to power with violence and murder to their hypocrisy of today claiming to be the moral guides of the world.... how could that which has been formed by the most evil of human intent ever have the ability to guide morally... Nothing in that church has ever changed without a battle... their "good" face today was brought on by the beatings they've received through out the centuries... and still they go on as the evil they are...self righteous condemning that which does not bow down to the evil it still serves.... well I say they need to get beaten out of existance then we shall have peace without hypocrisy... this goes for all the catholic clones as well called christianity...

I ignore the bureaucracy of the church. The philosophy behind a religion is all that matters to me.
