Try some cat food that will help prevent it...and they also have hairball medicine I'm not sure the cost, but I know that it works because my sister's cat takes it once a month and has never had a hairball. Ask the vet about it.

All cats can form hairballs. They build up hair in their digestive tracts when they clean themselves. Long-haired cats, because they have more hair, seem to have more problems with hairballs. To reduce hairballs, feed your cat a special diet especially designed to prevent hairball formation. Also, give your cat hairball medication (available at pet stores and at the super market), which will lubricate the digestive tract and let the cat eliminate the hair.
Good luck!

It's normal for cats to form hairballs due to their constant grooming of themselves. The hair collects in their stomachs and forms balls. Many cats will try on their own to get rid of them. That's why they like to eat grass when they go outside. The grass helps to make them vomit up the hairballs. I've got a cat that does it all the time. I let her go outside to chew on the grass but don't let her back in until after she has thrown up the hairball and grass.

My cat throws up whenever it eats grass. Buy special cat foods that help with hairballs. I don't know what else to tell you.

You can buy stuff at the pet store for hairballs just ask the people there what works best for them. I highly recommend brushing your cat every day for awhile. This will remove excess fur and reduce the amount he's ingesting, so less in less out. Its worked for me.

How frequently do you brush him? If you don't do it often (or at all), try brushing him for at least 5 minutes a day. When he cleans himself he won't ingest all his shedding hair.
