I will be doing a half marathon in 2 weeks, and I have ran 5 other half marathons in the past 2 yrs. My goal for the marathon is under 4 hrs. Can I train for a marathon in 6 weeks with 6 yrs of xc experience behind me?

Just to add some footnotes to Lester's comments which are right on...

1. completing 26 miles, 385 yards is just as much mental as it is physical.

2. until you've done some 18-22 milers, you can't imagine how your mind will work

3. you may well finish the marathon in 6 weeks, but your body may pay for it with overuse injuries, stress fracture, the flu, or worse

Good Luck whatever your decision...

Nah, it would just lead to a bad running experience, which may prevent you from ever running a marathon.

However, I would definitely shoot for the half marathon at that same race if they have one. Six weeks is long enough to prepare if you are up to 8.

Good luck....and shoot for the full marathon next year!!

Technically, no you can not.
If you wish to do the marathon you need to do a run walk race, and not worry about time.

Realistically you are going to hurt.
Doing it under 4 hours is not going to happen.
The longest you can run is 8 miles, that is not one third the distance of a marathon.

6 weeks is not long enough to do the training necessary to run a successful marathon.

I have known several people who have trained & finished marathons with onl 4-6 weeks of training. Your xc experience should help. Good luck.
