well there are several ways.... without taking medicine, things like sunlight, and exercise are found to increase serotonin levels in the body. otherwise, SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and MAOI's (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) are pills you can take to increase serotonin uptake in the brain. some SSRIs are: prozac, wellbutrin, zoloft, and effexor. there are many others.

a psychiatrist or other doctor can prescribe these medications for people who do not naturally make enough serotonin. however, be careful because they do have side effects :-) good luck.

The best way is by eating healthily. It's foods which contain tryptophan that are good a producing serotonin. I've provided a couple of links showing the best foods to have. (It's near the bottom of the page in the second link.) I hope this helps.

apparently eating carbohydrates, though this produces a sugar drop and can lead to low mood 30 mins later so not the best idea.

Also, excercise, walking as oppose to getting a bus, going to the gym as oppose to lounging with the tv and doing classes insted of drinking out the bar/pub/whatever!
Exercise helps seratonine levels.

Besides 5-htp and Tryptophan, believe it or not, your own thoughts can help you feel it.. I call it wonderfulizing...It's the opposite of catastrophizing.. Think only about positive things..It takes some practice, but it works..
