Tell your parents that having a hamster is an easy way for you to learn responsibility at a young age and it takes up little room and costs are not real high. If they agree, YOU must agree to take care of that little creature and learn all you can on how to do it right.

You might want to read up on how to take care of hamsters first before actually getting one. It's only fair to the animal. Here's a few websites to start with.

Hi :-) Maybe you could start by explaining to them : A.) That it will teach you responsibility to care for a pet.
B.) having a pet is said to make children kinder and more empathetic human beings.
C.) it would really be a great way for you to learn about all about rodents. The educational angle really works well. You could read all you can on hamsters and let your parents see how serious you are about this. Another thing that would help convince them is if you keep your room clean. They will not have to worry about a pet making a big mess.( I'm not saying that you don't keep your room clean.) My 9 year old daughter got a Panda hamster last month and all of the things I mentioned above worked on me! She is loving and taking great care of her new little friend. I hope everything works out for you. Good Luck!

If you want a rodent-- get a rat...

I had tons of hamsters as pets when I was younger. I was scared of rats because I'd really never seen one up close or played with one. I work at a research facility, and we house all types of rodents. Rats are the way to go. Hamsters are more aggressive than rats, and rats are much CLEANER. You can keep two rats together without problems, but if you ever got more than one hamster, there is a good chance they would fight.

Rats are very friendly and live a little longer than hamsters do. They don't have as many health problems either.

Go Rats!

You shouldn't need an excuse to get a pet. If you have shown that you can care for the pets you already have and keep up on your own responsibilities, it should speak louder than any excuse would. Besides, a hamster won't get you to vet school. Getting good grades now is what you need to focus on. Good luck with your ambitions.

It will give you experience with rodents. Vets have to know all sort of animals - canines, felines, rodents, reptiles, birds, etc. for a small animal vet.
They're quiet, and don't bother the neighbors, don't eat much, and don't take up too much room.
But the real question is, if you like hamsters, then go for it.

i think of Twinkle is an fairly lovable call, and "tinkle" is the bathing room euphemism, not Twinkle! have relaxing with your hamster, and verify you do your examine to offer it the final care obtainable.

Don't get a hamster. They are fun for about a week, then they are just annoying.

P.S. In case you didn't notice, this is the dog section.

Why should you get a hamster? I have no friggin' clue. This is the dog forum, sweetie. Dog people usually don't have the foggiest idea of why you would get a hamster.

Ask the rodent people. I think you should get a dog.
