My bday is in a few weeks and I haven't had a party since I was 18 so I thought it would be fun to have one. The question is it okay to throw ones own bash? And how do you tell the people you invite that you'd rather not recieve gifts.

Sure, send out evites or invites and be sure to say, "Please NO presents, I just want you to come and help me celebrate with your company" Have a lot of goodies and sodas/drinks and have fun. Some people will bring gifts regardless, sometimes this is awkward for the people who actually do comply with your request.

You invite people over and tell them that the party is a birthday party for yourself and please do not bring anything in the way of gifts, their company will be enough! Or, you could not mention the birthday part.

Happy Birthday.

State on the invitation: " Your company is a gift, none other is necessary." Have a great birthday.
