as catholics, are we allowed to go to parties where there's drinking and dancing? i think if you don't drink too much, or do anything innapropriate, then it's ok. i think in the bible it says you cant go to gatherings where there's drinking, but cmon, thats like impossible, right? so, would it be a sin if we went to a party like this?

Yes, it's permissible (in general terms) to go to a party that involves drinking and dancing.

Yes, you are correct that you cannot drink too much (get drunk) nor should you do anything inappropriate (suggestive dance moves). However, one should take care that one knows the purpose of the party and that it's purpose is not for everybody to get drunk & do the nasty. Because it would be sinful to support such a purpose, even if you didn't follow through yourself.

No it wouldn't be a sin to go to the party. You are right you can dance and drink as long as you don't over do it. Even Jesus went to parties. There is one of the Gospels that reads about Jesus going to a wedding and changing water in to wine. So I would think if Jesus can go we can go with out have a sin on our soul

BY the way God bless you dear

Why should going there be a sin per se? The question is not whether you can go there or not, but how you should (or shouldn't) behave, and with what attitude. But that's the same question regardless if you're on a party, at home, at the beach, in church or at a monastic long retreat.

If that were the case, why did Jesus go to the wedding at Cana?---Yes it is fine to go to parties where there is drinking and dancing---moderation is the key and as long as the intent is not to let the "spirits" get in the way of your spirit then your fine. Maintain your ability to make your free will choices is all. The Lord knows we need recreation and some sort of fun outlets.
