Being that you're from Scotland, I'm assuming that you heard of Mopar in a car or truck performance context?
Chrysler/Dodge has a rich tradition in cars and trucks with massively big engines at no cost... e.g., Challenger, Charger, Viper, etc. Whereas GM/Chevrolet try to get higher power to weight ratios out of their more efficient engines (e.g., Corvette Z06's LS7 V-8 engine), Dodge, with components supplier Mopar's help, builds, nonsensically huge engines which more or less keeps the concept of big and noisy muscle cars and trucks alive here in the US. Though there's always a bias for the more efficient, economical car for piratical daily driving, there's usually a need to keep at least one thoroughbred in the stable which helps us unwind during the weekends. If we're not riding these muscle cars, then we're building them or dreaming about building them or admiring them. That's were Mopar with their big engines come in. They set a crazy high bar.

Like Jason Said, is derived from Motor Parts.
To be Mopar, it usually means you have one or enjoy discussing of the original 5 brands, or even some of the newer brands.
The original 5 were Imperial, Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth and Desoto. Pentastar was rumor'd to be 5 sided for the 5 brands. Desoto vanished around 1960. Imperial merged into a Chrysler Model in the mid-60s.
It was that way for quite some time. Then, along the way, Mitsubishi was mopar for awhile, as well as Lamborghini. Jeep/Eagle and all other AMC older cars were grandfathered in as mopars.
Plymouth was killed in the 90's. Leaving Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep as the remaining three mopar brands.

MOPAR use to be a supplier for Chrysler way back when. It merged with Chrysler and is the acronym for MOter PARts. In 1960 it gained great fame with it's muscle engines. Just like General Motors use to use a company to build there car bodies. The company was Fisher and all general cars had a plate on the door sill that said 'BODY by FISHER.' Fisher started out building wagons and buggies like Studebaker and Buick and Cadillac.

You're correct, the idea was to stop the manifold cracking problem by giving an expansion joint for the heating and cooling cycles, it didn't work. On later models Mopar went to a two piece manifold and finally solved the problem, so far. And yes, the two-piece manifolds will inter-change with earlier year model blocks. The performance improvement you've seen is the basics of exhaust scavenging. Hi-flow exhausts work on some engines, not so on the Jeep 4.0L and especially the 2.5L. These Jeep engines need back-pressure. The smaller exhaust diameter up front supplies that needed pressure and the larger diameter piping behind that allows the exhaust to flow out faster when that pressure pushes out. It's common to see some Jeeps with large diameter exhausts with a smaller exhaust tip to provide that back-pressure. Your discovery shows why expensive, free-flowing exhausts on stock Jeep engines really aren't worth the cost, they actually run better with the stock manifold and maybe an upgraded muffler like a Magnaflo or Flowmaster. Do some research on inertial scavenging, pressure and reversion waves, exhaust induction... especially as it relates to an engine designed for low rpm, hi-torque applications like the factory stock Jeep 4.0.

It is Dodge's version of their oil and products. If you drive a Dodge/Chrysler they are great for your car!!! I drive a Chrysler 300 and it is great for it! Oil changes at a Dodge dealership or a Chrysler dealership will give you that kind of oil.
