About 2 weeks ago, I sent the following email to a friend of mine (he lives about 3 hours away and I don't get to see him often):

Dear______, Long time no speak. Anyways, I just wanted to inform you that I'm actually going to be in the area in about two weeks (Oct 26-28) to visit my friend, _____. Whether or not you'll be able to or want to see me during that time is entirely up to you. I certainly wouldn't want to impose or anything; if it's going to be too much of a hassle, then don't worry about it. Anyways I got to run. Catch you later.

I'm leaving on friday and would like to know before hand if he'll be able to or even want to see me. He's busy at times and his girfriend (whom I never met before) recently moved in with him and I wouldn't want to disturb them. So my question is do I email him again reminding him that I'm going to be in the area or do I let it go and hope that he'll call me when I'm there? Do I call him once I'm there to say I'm there? What do I do?

I would just give them a call BEFORE you go to check in, if he has not responded at all to your email, they may have other plans or it may be a bad time.

Did he respond to the first email? If so, then a quick message just saying, "looking forward to seeing you and GF next week!"

If you're really interested in knowing whether or not he can meet you, why not just give him a quick call? Just "Hey, are we going to be able to get together for coffee/lunch/etc. while I'm in town visiting ___?" Let him take it from there.

And you wonder why he hasn't replied. What tone were you trying to come off on in your email. You start off loosey goosey, then go all formal, throw in a guilt trip then cut it short? You need to try and be a bit more breezy and cool with it and honest. Friends love it when you say 'man I miss you, Ive got heaps to tell you and it would be awesome to catch up, plus I'd love to meet your new squeeze'. Sound like a long lost best friend not a dryballs.

Ring him before you leave and sound a bit more cheery on it mate!

If he hasn't contacted you since, then he certainly won't remember to call you while you're there.
Give him one more email or text message letting him know you'll be in town, and give him your phone number. Leave it at that - if he doesn't respond then he is too busy or simply not interested.

Did he write back to you? If he wrote back to at least acknowledge your email then go ahead and call him when you leave.

If he didn't write back or hasn't spoken to you then just wait to see if he calls. If he doesn't then he probably didn't want to or couldn't hang out that weekend. Especially because he is living with his new gf.

Call him before you go. Simple call. Hey, I never heard back from you about getting together. Here's my cell, if you want to get together. It leaves it up to him, but at least you tried.

Is there anything else you can e-mail him about?
Then you could attach your question sneakishly.

"Hey, I was cleaning my closets, and found your old ___. Do you want it back? I can drop it off on Friday, when I will be in town."

Something like that.

I'm with Sunkist. Don't bother him again if you didn't hear back. After all, you pretty much left it up to him.

Have a good trip!
