someone please tell my friend here what small talk is and/or things you could say to start small talking with someone- she wants to see what people other me and her think.

"What do you do for a living? ........ really, been doing it long? ........ find it interesting? ....... I thought about doing that once, but didn't get the grades....... Do you get time to do much when you're not at work? ....... wow, that must be fun, I never tried that ........ etc, etc, etc

Yes, I'll give you small talk, not cheap talk, not dirt talk, but real talk. Talk about reality. It is easy to see the world through rose colored glasses where all is fine and all is getting better, but no, this is not the case. The facts speak for themselves, and the picture is not very pretty, no no, it is not pretty at all. As bad as things obviously are I remain in optomistic spirits not that the world will improve, but that God will be here very soon, much sooner than it appears because things really can't get much gloomier. I know this subject of "reality" really isn't a pleasant thing to make small talk about. But I tend to be real, yes, a realist. First, it is the corruption of politicians which begin the picture, then, in addition, two, religion too is quite cunning and man made and could not be further from the bible. Then, there is number three, corporations which is ruining and has damaged the earth. How about four, four is that people continue to get sick to a hosts of deadly diseases and sicknesses plus old age which is impossible not to confront in gradual time, and five, hate, there is so much of it in the stale air of authority from bad cops to criminals, and then there is seven, take your pick: violence, child molestation, home invasion robberies, car jackings, car muggings, people muggings, and lots and lots more than meets the eye. Well, I'll nip it in the bud here, but I hope this is good as small talk gets. Well, you and your friend wanted small talk, I gave it my best try, but I tend not to wish to waste your time on deception nor entertainment, but as I said, "on the real!"

Small talk is usually small conversations. Like if you're out on a date - you would ask your date..."Where are you from?"...Where did you go to school?"...How many brothers and sisters do you have?"
That's what it is in my humble opinion.

"hows your sister? i heard she got married"
"so... the red sox are playing in the world series tonight"
just anything that really doesnt mean much to keep up conversation is all it means.

Well start by saying "Hello" and talk about stuff like "weather, sports, news, events"...
