Get in Regular Army 1st, get your rank up to speed to be in Special Forces, they don't just take inexperienced civilians right out of Boot Camp. You can't inlist in the Army with a Special Forces Contract. It's offered to you as an oportunity after you've reached E-4. If some one guarantees you a contract and you sign up, you'll have a bit of a wait until you're qualified to sign up for Q-Course. All in all, pay for a credit check on-line so you'll know, because they do check that with a security clearance. You should be okay.

There is no contract for enlisting and going straight into Special Forces. You have to wait a certain time and be a PFC (E3) before you can even goto SFAS (Special Forces Assessment / Selection). You can't goto the qualifying course (Q Cource) until you are a Specialist (E4). Now, if you are asking if you do the above, will bad credit affect being selected.....well, lets be honest here, if your asking this question, then it is more than being behind on car payments, isn't it? Regardless, I doubt there is a block on the assessment form where an evaluator figures in a credit score, however, you must be able to get a security clearance. If the SF community feel you won't be cleared due to bad financial habits which may lead to you being persuaded by financial gain in the future, then it will hurt you.

You have a long road ahead of you. Be completely honest! If you lie about certain things at the MEPS and sign an enlistment or sign your application for the SF, and it was a lie, you will regret it. Be straightforward and honest. If this is what you really want then don't settle for less. Be polite but firm when selecting a job and get your 18X contract. SF is very difficult and its not like TV or Rambo. Look into Ranger School. 11X Opt. 40. (Ranger)

Nada to do with it. The first thing you'll have to do is get through Basic training. Then, IF you're good enough, you have to make it through jump school. When I went through over 1700 attempted and only 400 made it. If you void the contract by failing the Army will make you what they want you to be. I'd say make sure you have the ultimate determination, the wherewithal in terms of strength and endurance and fortitude. All will be tested along with your ability to think quick on your feet.

I wouldn't worry about a couple late payments. As long as you made them they won't care much. They are more concerned about huge mountains of debt. Talk to a recruiter. They may help you structure you debt so it can be paid while you are in training. Have fun and thanks for serving your country.
PS: While Special Forces would be pretty dang cool, there are a lot of other good and important jobs in the Army where you can get great experience and job training, such as electronics, healthcare or computers.

The first poster is right about what you should do - always be honest. Good luck!

Hey axsooted, they look at your credit when they do security clearances (so do a lot of private companies for that matter), so his question is a good one.

The first thing you should do is learn how to spell enlist and bankruptcy. Special forces don't take people that can't communicate well.

Go to a US Army Recruiter, because they would be more qualified to answer these questions or go
to http://www.goarmy.com and http://www.military.com
