They are generalist feeders, capable of digesting a wide range of substances due to the variety of bacteria and protozoa in their digestive systems. They help decompose forest litter and animal fecal matter and are, in turn, food for many other animals, including scavengers of dead cockroaches, predators, and egg parasites. They are therefore an important part of the food web. The success of their survival strategies is proven by the longevity of the group and their amazing diversity.

With some 3500 varieties of cockroaches -95 % made up of 5 types - Asian, American, brown, banded, and I think Japanese; there is not really one food that universally is the food of choice, however cockroaches are omnivores, they like fermented foods, meat, starches, sugary food, rotting vegetation, and spoiled dairy products. Ohhhhh yummy.

I'm pretty sure they're like crickets and eat just about anything i.e. grass, decomposing food, fruit, veggies, even each other.

chocolatte and cream filled croisants, strawberry crepe's
and bailley's Irish cream liquor.
of course when you live under a cupboard and can't get in the fridge
you settle for leftover pizza and half empty noodle boxes.
