Jesus had to be born in the line of David according to 2 Samuel 7:12-13 and The lineage of Jesus is recorded in two places: Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38. Both which infer Joseph as his father in the flesh. Yet we are lead to believe God impregnated Mary not Joseph. I have heard it said that the line passes through Mary but thats not what the Bible states. Is it truth or fiction?

People will twist and turn the Bible just to suit themselves.Depends on your faith , denomination , and you . but there is nothing false. ' Some are trying to change things , others go overboard some take it literal and other claim symbolic and then we have those that say its just spiritual ..Now the bible is truth but on somethings it takes a search to see it and other times its right there .Matt. says Christ was born to Mary and calls Joseph the husband of Mary and says nothing of being the father of Christ .In the book of Luke it does not point to Joseph , it says so it was thought . People thought that Joseph was the father .The reason this was so was because Mary had other children , she didn't remain a virgin .The people just took things for granted as they do today .

If you are born of a Jewish mother, even today, then you are considered Jewish. There's a deep spiritual reason why Jesus could not be of man's seed, but we won't go into it here. So born of Mary, Jesus was a Jew on his mother's side. It was prophecized that the Messiah would come from the line of David, from the town of Bethlehem, with many other things said beforehand that were fulfilled. If anything, it says that that the Bible offers clues to a plan unfolding far beyond anyone's control or wildest dreams. In fact, here is a good case where truth is stranger than fiction. And when you see the plan unfolding, who could have thought up a greater drama than God himself?

I take the Bible very seriously since I think it's kind of pointless to be a Christian if I don't. As far as Jesus' geneology, he is descended of David through both Mary and Joseph's lines, but he is only the flesh and blood child of Mary. (and the Holy Spirit). I think that God had Joseph also be of the line of David because of the whole patriarchal thing going on in those days, but that's just my opinion and not biblically based.

Highly likely to be fiction. They needed it to give hm claim to be the Moshiac that would lead Israel to earthly victory - "there shall come forth a rod out of Jesse" and all that jazz. Joseph was apparently a Greek diaspora Jew while Mary was native to the homeland, the idea that a peasant carpenter and his young wife knew and preserved their lineage or that Jesus knew or revealed it to anyone is to me absurd and cuts against the humility Jesus shows about himself.

That said, finding a Biblical error doesn;t invalidate everything, it means you have to use your heart and your brain when you read. That's not how the Bible is offered to us in the modern Protestant tradition but the older denominations and the catholic Church would be perfectly happy to concede a few things!

i'll straighten it out for you. for example's sake, let's say my mum got pregnant with me with another man during her marriage with my father. under any system of law, a child born within a marriage would be considered the child of the father and legitimate, unless the father disputes the paternity of the child. since joseph assumed being the foster father of jesus, jesus is indeed, by fiction of law, the descendant of david. you must read the the verses with the other verses of the bible, wherein it was said that joseph knew that god was the father of christ, but to protect mary from disgrace, he married her, thus the child jesus would be presumed to be his...

The Messiah ben David must have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon

Jesus fails

I will take it farther and say he also must:
2. be anointed King of Israel,
3. return the Jewish People to Israel,
4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,
5. bring peace to the world and end all war,
6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

This is why most Jews cannot accept Jesus as the Christ. I personally believe that Joseph was his biological father, as God works with sciences, not against.

I thought you were serious, but this is too easy. Pick a hard one. We can convince ourselves we BELIEVE anything; let's see what we're willing to DO or refrain from doing.

"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

"Religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation -- unspotted to keep himself from the world."

"Give him his payment day by day, not keeping it back over night; for he is poor and his living is dependent on it; and if his cry against you comes to the ears of the Lord, it will be judged as sin in you."

"The one who does not collect interest on a loan or take a bribe against an innocent person."

"If a brother or a sister is without clothing and in need of the day's food, And one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warm and full of food; but you do not give them the things of which their bodies have need, what profit is there in this?"

These verses are hard to live by, much harder than accepting as true something that has no direct impact on us.

And what about, "Let your conversation be without love of money, satisfied with your present circumstances"? How would the American economy flourish if we were satisfied with our "present circumstances"?
