I have a 10 year old son that does EVERYTHING with the exception of sports at a very slow pace. He's the last one done eating, the last one done with homework even if he's got the least amount to do. He even walks slow! But put him on a football field, basketball court or track and he's shines....he's an excellent athlete but in every other area he just moves at a slow pace. His teacher has even asked me if that was just him. He's intelligent and has not problem with comprehending the work it just for whatever reason takes him a loooonnnggg time to get it done. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated. And if you don't have anything nice to say do as my mother always told me -- Don't say anything at all!!!! Thanks!

I have a 10 yr old son too. I believe there are things that are part of "who they are" that cannot be changed. If that's the least of his problems, God has blessed you indeed!
I imagine that those who move slower make fewer mistakes, right? I can see all the positive sides to a slower little guy more than the spastic "high-spirited" little guy. He's exactly who he was meant to be and doing a fine job by the sounds of it!

My son only moves quickly when he is motivated to do so. One morning, I got in the car and left without him (driving up the street a bit). He was never slow in the morning again. As far as homework goes, the longer he takes to get it done correctly, the less time he has for playtime. Same thing with his chores.

i had a friend like that in high school. he shines in sports such as soccer and have large endurance for marathon race. he is very intelligent and is currently studying medicines to eventually become a medical doctor. Don't worry. he is just fine as he is.

ask him why he does everything slowly. dont approach him as if it is a problem or he will feel like you are putting him on the spot. any answer he gives you should answer your question. my brother was the same way. he did everything slow. it was just his way of doing things, and it was the way he liked to do things.

probably lacks motivation to do anything other than sports at a faster pace... (Its not like you get an option with sports to go slow...)
