As said, if you are really concerned to the point that : the thigns in everyday life that used to give you joy are just cold to you now, or had feelings of suicide, problems getting out of bed in the morning, unable to shake the feeling off and unable to talk to anybody about it, or that nobody can understand you, then-
You need to go see a doctor. Hes the only one that can help you in such a situation to the descriptors above. The doctor will, as another person answered, give you talks so that you can help connect and realise what is wrong, a chance to relax and let yourself out. For the time being he will also prescribe you anti depressants relating to the level and type of depression that you have, as a short term fix to give you that extra go- a type of placebo to help you get on in the day.
However, if the feelings come and go or you can actually point the proble down to something that you feel you can fix, and that 'something' is for example going on a short break to feel stress free- and you can imagine yourself there not being depressed, then exactly that is your answer. Get yourself out, explore yourself, do something that is guaranteed to make you enjoy yourself.

A short term fix is to just get out of the house. You can go to the movies, a park or even just a shopping mall. Don't buy anything though. It is good to get around people. This change of scenery can help to change your mind set and make you feel a little better.
Usually, depression comes from a chemical imbalance. You can wait for your body to fix itself, which it might do, or you can see a doctor and ask for some pills. These pills will artificially bring your body in balance. But, you will probably have to keep taking them. Your body will only balance itself if you let it deal with the depression naturally.
While you are trying to deal with the symptoms of depression, maybe you should try to find the cause. Is there some aspect of your life that you are really dissatisfied with? Is there something you could do to make a change in your life? Not everyone can make a change that will get them out of depression. But, if you have that freedom, it seems like that would be better than suffering or taking pills for the rest of your life.

If it's chemical based depression, you can get rid of it by taking prescription meds.
If it's situational, you have to work through the issue somehow or if it's because of your diet, you'll need to adjust it and start exercising.

NO such thing of a chemical imbalance that's something we have been sold , told and lied to about. How can they prove a chemical imbalance? Stay far away from the psych drugs they ruined my life. I was on them for 3years for bdd. Stay away they will cause you more problems then good. This website here is where I had to go to get help. Alot of people who have side effects and watch as their life was ruined by the drugs and lies. www.paxilprogress.org Their are people here who have been on paxil , prozac , lexapro etc all of them . And they have gone through hell and back because of them. After going through hell did I realize you can't prove a chemical imbalance. I wish I realized that earlier it pretty much cost me alot of my life because of it. Your best bet is if you have something you love a goal in life is just to focus on that . Think of depression like night a natural thing just like happiness that will pass in time. Just focus on something you enjoy and stay away from psych drugs
