A grape is a berry, although it IS a fruit. It's not in any classification by itself, botanically. It is unlike an apple (or a pear) in that it carries multiple seeds for propagation within a soft, fleshy pulp. Apples (etc.) have a dense pulp, which protects the seeds from temperature extremes.
Since grapes contain multiple seeds, they are not drupes...drupes are similar to berries, except that drupes contain only one large seed or "stone". Examples are cherries, plums, and peaches. But all drupes are also fruits.

A grape is neither apple nor berry, its in a category by itself. The resemblence to berries ends on the stem! Did you know that every fall you can purchase grapples? These are fuji apples that have been infused with the flavor of grape! Heard they are wonderful, crunchy, and juicy.
