You should first discuss with your doctor about a safe weight loss program. There are so many diet programs out there that are absolutely terrible. Through your doctor you can find on that will be safe and effective for you. You can also find out how much weight is safe to lose per week.
After speaking with your doctor, go and speak with a physical trainer on what exercises you should do and that will be beneficial.
Basically, every person is different and a diet and exercises program needs to be tailored to you in order to be long term effective.

Well depends on how much you weigh now and how much body fat you have. Btw don't swim to lose weight, its not really the best for weight loss since theres no weight involved, running and walking are much more effective.
Unless youre 300+ pounds, you dont really want to lose more than 2 pounds a week. The main goal here should be to achieve better health and a better lifestyle. It will be a complete waste of time to do some kind of diet or do unordinary excersize, since you'll be likely to not do it forever and youll just gain the weight right back. Unless you think youre capable of eating no carbs for the rest of your life just completely ignore diets, theyre complete rubbish and ask anyone whos done one a few years ago, bet ya anything they gained the weight back.
Look for a healthier lifestyle overall. If you think you can cut out soda then do that, try to drink skim milk and water instead. Try to start taking vitamins and try to include vegetables of different colors in each meal. Try working in a 20 minute jog everymorning. Whatever you think you can keep up.
Edit:
Oh yeah I might as well bring up an important point after reading an anonymous yet educated answer posted by someone else.
Snacking is very important! You do not want to eat 3 big meals a day because in between those meals your metabolism is going to slow down greatly and you wont be burning anything. The best option is to eat smaller meals and eat snacks in between the meals, this is going to keep your metabolism active all day and youll burn much more.

You did not gain the weight overnight, so there is no safe way to lose weight fast. Usually an average of 2-4 lbs a week is healthy.
Drink lots of water 8-10 glasses per day usually adds up to 64 ounces. Don't use butters, of fatty foods such as fries, hamburger. Check calories per serving.
Eat smaller portions and make healthy choice of what you put in your mouth.
Eating 3 healthy snacks and 3 meals per day with a 1500-1600 calories per day is a good way to lose weight.
Exercise is good but too much is not a good think. you should exercise every other day for 30-50 minutes.
Good luck remember you didn't gain the weight over night so it will take time.

if you eat right and take in less calories than you burn during excercise, you will lose weight. It all depends on how much you will loose in 5 days. Everyone's different and your size makes a difference on how much you loose, so its hard telling. But if you eat a smaller balanced meal about 5 times a day your energy will boost and you will be albe to work out longer. Keep it up for a while and you're sure to see results.

Well if your over 65 kilos roughly THEN worry :)
And changing the eating habit makes the diet work- its like 2 halfs of something to make a full x
And how much you'd loose depends on how tall you are, when you eat and how much.
You should loose if in 5 months around 3-5 stones wich is healthy.

Fix your eating habits and exercise.
Increase your exercise level gradually, or you'll get hurt and be set back that much further. Alter you eating habits a little at a time to make the changes easier to swallow(!). Change to more fruits and vegetables, less red meat and carbs. Never eat fried foods.
Diet pros recommend losing a pound or two per week. So in 5 months, you could be 40 lbs lighter, and a whole lot healthier.
Good for you for recognizing the need to change. Oh you can find a lot of information for free online at ediets.com.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

well, a heathly goal is 2 or 3 pounds a week. So...5 months, 4 weeks per month, 20 weeks, you could lose anywhere between 40-60 pounds, and still being losing fat, and not muscle or anything important. Good luck. I'm losing weight too, and doing pretty good. 2 months into my 6 month goal. Hope this helps!

You don't really want to lose weight. What you really want to do is fire up your metabolism, and GAIN muscle and LOSE fat.
Here is the short list:
1) increased physical activity (including moderate weight training)
2) compose perfect meals (balance of protein, fiber, healthy fat, and complex carbohydrates)
I've dropped 30 pounds of excess fat.
Uncountable books have been written on the subject. Some of them have some good science, a lot of them are just whacky. I personally suggest Mark Hyman's Ultrametabolism. (It should be available at your public library, as a CD audio book you can listen to while you walk.)

In the past I have been able to lose the most weight by cutting down on:
1) alcohol - especially beer - and -
2) white foods
White foods meaning:
* sugar
* white flour (muffins even if they seem healthy - buns on hamburgers, etc.....)
* starchy veggies like potatoes and bananas
Good things to focus on so you don't feel deprived:
One of my favorite healthy snacks is fresh berries with fresh whipped cream (so you avoid added sugar by whipping it yourself and you get the benefit of protein and calcium) - or you can go with plain yogurt as the berries will sweeten it up.
I learned this through the south beach diet and lost 35 pounds in 5 months. Everyone's body is different though.
There's also a lot to be said for getting enough sleep so that your body doesn't create the stress hormone that makes you crave carbs.
Best of luck to you! :-)
