Peter, first of all is your country in this continent? If it is, then just go home. Do not get deported, because if you ever want a passaport to come visit or vacation it will be hard. If it if overseas, then you will need to save up to get there. There are no authorities involved when an illegal immigrant wants to leave. Just leave. However, if you are near one of your embassys, go there and ask for their help.

Contact the embassy of you own country if your passport is expired, they'll be able to issue you a new one that make you able to leave the US and enter into your own country without a problem.
You might get a bar of not being able to get back into the US for the next 10 years, depending on how long you overstayed the allowed time for your country of origin.

Call your embassy. They may be able to help you. If not, call the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

If you are completely without funds, your embassy may pay for you to return--unless you have friends or relatives who can pay. However, they will expect to be reimbursed.
