Hi there.

They wont actually push up your gums, what they'll do is realign your gumline to give a nicer shape.

You'll have an anasthetic when this is done and wontfeel it,lots of people get it done.

They simply cut away some gum to give a better shape around the teeth.

Then your teeth will look fantastic and you can smile away and dazzle everyone.

Take care,
Paul

I am a dental nurse and I have no idea what you mean by 'pushing your gums up!' Do you mean visiting the hygienist for scaling? I can't think what you are referring to.
If you gums are red/swollen/partly covering your upper teeth, it sounds like you need oral hygiene instruction. Gums are red/swollen because they are harbouring plaque bacteria between the gum and the tooth.
The most important part to brush is the junction of the tooth and gum - use a softish/medium brush and spend time massaging these areas with the toothbrush. Inflammation causes the gums to bleed - this will diminish with more rigorous cleaning.
The only other thing I can think of is curettage, where some of the gum is removed but this is major treatment and I doubt if it's what you are referring to.

The procedure you are talking about is not painful because they will give you an injection of local anaesthetic to numb the area. The dentist will then cut some of your gum tissue away to give you the result you are looking for. The instrument used is called an electrosurge which cauterises(burns) the tissue as it cuts so there is minimal if any bleeding and it heals quite quickly. This all probably sounds horrific to you but I assure you its not. It is a minor procedure that can give very good results. Talk to your orthodontist and dentist about the procedure. They will be able to answer all the important questions for you. Good luck and congratulations on completing your treatment.

they didn't give you antibotics!?! it sounds like it's infected to me. 125mg of graprfruit seed extract 3 times a day has worked for serious infections i've had before. i'm talking about misshapened face infections. so you could try that but if it doesn't start getting noticably better in 2-3 days go see a dentist. you can mix cloves with everclear took make clove oil which is one of the best things you can use for the pain. also, gargle with salt water. don't smoke or drink with a straw because that can cause serious problems. hope you feel better soon take it easy

Had the procedure done today and it hurts a little. I don't know how bad you neglect your gums, but they would tell you to bite something like what a shark does.

Getting your gums pushed up???? Wow, that sounds excrutiating! I'm pretty sure it won't be like pushing up your cuticles. I'd bypass that procedure!!! Thank God that you have healthy gums now...messing with your gums like that could lead to gingivitis-and I'm positive teeth with receding gumlines are NOT pretty!
