My dogs like bigger game like birds and hogs, but their hunting dogs. My cats on the other hand, will slaughter any small critter that crosses their path.
Be sure to give them a nice scratch and a "good dog" if they bring the kill to the back porch or door. In their mind they did a good deed and are giving the alpha(you), the first dibs on the kill. Of course, you won't eat it. So just chunk it, and give him a treat.
Never take an animal out of a dogs mouth. That's a sure way to get bit, or at the very least, piss your dog off something fierce. If the dog is territorial by nature, you'll be sure to give him a complex. It's natural for dogs to kill small animals and insects. They don't like them around either.

My dachshund Quincey kills moles, does that count?
If your dog kills mice regularly, be sure and treat him for tapeworms. Otherwise, I'd watch his stool for a while and make sure they don't show up. The flea is an intermittent carrier; the dog does not even have to eat the mouse, just ingest a flea.

Hahaha Mouse Slayer, that is so funny cause I say stuff like that. Yes, I once had a dog that loved to chase and catch and kill mice. He never ate them, but crunched them to death. When I would catch him, I would scold him though cause I was worried he'd catch something.

Haha...my Aussie mix caught a mouse and suffocated it...leaving just the tail hanging out of his mouth. My boyfriend bribed him with a treat to drop it...then shoveled the mouse over the fence!

When we first got our dog he "killed" one of the toy mice my cats play with. The fur from it was gone along with ears and eyes but the little chewed up plastic body was still there haha

sure, some persons and breeds (bred/used to kill vermin) are impressive 'mousers'. I could be somewhat careful, using fact our Dachshund would bypass after and kill our puppy mice in a 2nd. he's been raised with them considering the fact that twelve weeks of age and on, yet nonetheless won't comply with them. actually, he in simple terms turns into extra prepared as time bypass via. even in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the different canines (consisting of sighthounds, one w/heavy container & coursing titled strains) are used to them. in spite of the reality that, we are careful with each and all of the canines, considering the fact that all the breeds are wide-unfold for preychronic. Edit: i bypass to objective the Dach in 'Earthdog', using fact he's so obsessed.

I think most of mine would run from a mouse. The big pyr mix couldn't run fast enough to catch one if he wanted to. He's slow and clumsy.
