I recommend that you get a basic education in science if you are really concerned about this issue.
You need at least one year of freshman physics at a minimum.

I heard the same thing. There's the saint the listed all of the popes the Catholic church has had and will have, and according to him, we're on our 2nd last one. There's the Mayan calendar that supposedly ends on Dec. 21, 2012. There's the fact that our solar system is about to pass through the planar axis of our galaxy (what exactly that could mean, I don't know.) There's the African belief that the appearance of unusual animals, which they claim they are seeing, is a fore-warning of impending environmental disaster. There's the global warming doomsayers. I'm not sure what will happen, if anything, but the signs are pointing toward something significant happening in the near future. Anyway, I'm waiting until I turn 37 to worry about retirement savings (my birthday is Dec. 22; I turn 37 in 2012).

I assure you that the world will not end on December 21, 2012. In the book of Revelation, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus? Not yet. That will still come.
But there is something that is certain—and that is our physical death. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow His commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.
This is all that we have to do. It is faith in Him that we can take with us when we depart from this world. If we deny Him, He will deny us also before the Father in Heaven. If we know Him and love Him and followed His commandments, then He may reward us to live with Him eternally in His kingdom in Heaven.

That particular year was calculated to be very significant by the Mayans. They supposedly had very sophisticated calenders and could figure out how the Earth was aligning with the Universe. I don't think the end of the world will occurr in 2012....but the History Channel had a special on how that date was selected by the Mayans.

why 2012? And what evidence is that ?Because Y2K wasn't about end of the world, it had to do with computers being programmed to only generate dates starting with 19-- and go back to 1900 instead of 2000

The Mayan Calendars Stopped on December 21 2012
The Mayans said that on this day The world would end.
Scientists have said that on this day the Earth would be in the Exact center of the Galaxy.
I believe something special will happen, but not the end.

the only thing 2012 has backing it up is that the earth will be pointed at the center of the milky way as it finishes one of it's precessions. So what?
